Volunteer With EveryStep

At EveryStep, volunteers play an important role in the organization's ability to live out its mission. Simply put, without our dedicated volunteers, EveryStep would not be able to provide care and support to thousands of patients, clients, families, and our own staff every year.

Each day, we hear how a volunteer has impacted the lives of the people EveryStep serves, from listening to a hospice patient; baking treats for our hospice home; leading grief support groups; or unloading, cleaning, and pricing donations for EveryStep Giving Tree thrift store. Our volunteers make a difference in their communities and at EveryStep.

Below, explore our many volunteer programs that provide interactive ways to connect with your peers, engage in community learning and health enrichment, and contribute to the life experiences of others. We can’t wait to welcome you to the EveryStep family!

Senior Companion

The Senior Companion Program at EveryStep matches companions with home-bound adults in our community to provide companionship, transportation, and respite at no cost to clients. Senior Companion volunteers are individuals age 55+ who offer friendship, social support, respite for caregivers, support with daily activities, and transportation to adults who need help with tasks, such as, shopping, appointments, and recreation activities. Senior Companions volunteers must reside in Polk, Warren, Marion, Lucas, or Pottawattamie Counties. The program aims to help older adults maintain their independence longer and provide assistance to family caregivers.

As a Senior Companion, volunteers can earn a modest, tax-free income for their time and compassion. The extra monthly income earned will not decrease housing, medical, food, disability, or other financial assistance received. Senior Companion volunteers have a regular, weekly schedule and consistent clients to build a relationship with over time. Senior Companions enjoy paid time off, holiday pay, meal and mileage reimbursement, and flexibility and independent scheduling. Senior Companions make new friends and help improve the quality of life for older adults in our community. As a Senior Companion, you will belong to a group of peers and staff who will support you.

Make a difference – be a member of the Senior Companion group who share the mission of compassionate support to individuals in need! To read a story about a Senior Companion volunteer, click hereTo learn more and show interest in volunteering, click one of the buttons below.
