Thieves Target EveryStep Cheer Box Packaging/Wrapping Location - UPDATE

Thieves broke into an Urbandale warehouse Monday night, stealing items needed for the EveryStep Grief & Loss Services' Cheer Box program. Cheer Boxes are a holiday box of 12, family-friendly gifts that go out to families and individuals that have felt the pain of losing a loved one. During the holiday season, EveryStep wants to remind them they have our support and care.

The warehouse broken into Monday night (November 15, 2021) was being used by volunteers to box and wrap the Cheer Boxes, which are scheduled to be picked up Friday for delivery. EveryStep staff and volunteers were planning to deliver 660 Cheer Boxes this holiday season.

The Urbandale Police Department is investigating the incident, in which two EveryStep automobiles were stolen, along with games and other items intended for the Cheer Boxes, as well as electronics and resources for volunteers. The two vehicles were located and returned to EveryStep Wednesday, November 17; however, neither vehicle is currently drivable.

While both vehicles were recovered, significant repairs are necessary. In addition, the other stolen items have not been recovered – including costly electronics and missing Cheer Box gifts. We have successfully purchased items to replace the missing Cheer Box gifts, but the expense to do so has been significant. EveryStep welcomes continued donations to help us offset those replacement and repair expenses. To make a donation, visit and designate your gift for "Grief and Loss/Amanda the Panda."
