Bidwell Riverside Center - Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Meat: Meat packages vary and include a minimum of 10 pounds of meat. Persons who receive a ham or other meat option are not eligible for a turkey. Turkeys will only be available on November 17th, November 19th, and November 21st. Meat packages must be signed up for in advanced. Sign up by texting 515-346-8895, include first and last name, and birthdate. You can also call and leave a message with that information. You will receive a confirmation number.

  • Tuesday, November 10th 8:00 - 10:00 a.m., deadline to sign-up November 6th
  • Thursday, November 12th 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., deadline to sign-up November 9th
  • Tuesday, November 17th 8:00 - 10:00 a.m., deadline to sign-up November 13th
  • Thursday, November 19th 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., deadline to sign-up November 16th
  • Saturday, November 21st 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., deadline to sign-up November 17th
  • Tuesday, November 24th 8:00 - 10:00 a.m., deadline to sign-up November 20th

Eligibility: Available to individuals who received services from the Bidwell Food Pantry in October or November 2020. Not eligible if anyone in household receives a Thanksgiving service from another agency.

Other: A valid photo ID for an adult must be presented at pick up. You must receive a confirmation number. Tuesday and Saturday events are no-contact pickup. Stay in the car. Thursday events pick up at pantry window.

Turkey: During the month of November, pick-up a frozen turkey in addition to regular food during scheduled pantry hours:

  • Monday - Thursday ,9:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
  • Closes at noon on Wednesday, November 25th
  • Eligibility: Open to anyone. This is a DMARC Food Pantry. Turkey not available if individual utilizes another DMARC food pantry in the same month.
  • Other: Bring a form of identification for all family members served. Photo identification needed for anyone aged 18 and older in the household. Step into booth to check-in. Speak over intercom, volunteer pushes cart with food outside.
Walmart - Ibotta - Thanksgiving

Free Thanksgiving Meal: Walmart and Ibotta have teamed up to launch a Free Thanksgiving Dinner when eligible items are purchased at Walmart and submitted to the Ibotta app.

  • Available while supplies last.
  • Receive full cash back on the Ibotta app on nine Thanksgiving food items.
  • Ibotta app can be downloaded on Google & Apple App Stores or can be accessed online at www.ibotta.com.
  • Specific items can be found on the Ibotta app under FREE Thanksgiving Dinner.

Toy Pantry

  • Sign-up starts December 1st.
  • Appointment will be made when signing up.
  • Registration process will be released after Thanksgiving. Must pre-register.
  • Parent/Guardian may choose one toy for each child signed-up. 
  • Eligibility: Families with children ages 17 and younger. No income or area restrictions. Must have received a meal package from Bidwell in October, November, or December 2020.
  • Other: Bring a form of identification, with date of birth, for all children in the household you wish to sign-up. Bring photo identification for the parent/guardian who completes the sign-up. Toys will be available on a first come, first served basis. Families can utilize the Toy Pantry as well as Toys for Tots.

LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program)

  • A program designed to aid low-income families in the payment of a portion of their heating costs for the winter season, to promote energy awareness and to encourage a reduction of energy usage through energy efficiency and client education.
  • Payments are based on family income, demographic factors, and fuel type.
  • Availability: Applications begin October 1st, 2020 for elderly, disabled, and those with a disconnect notice. All other people can apply from November 1st until April 30th, 2021.
  • Eligibility: Residents of Boone, Jasper, Marion, Polk and Warren counties with income less than 175% Federal Poverty Level. If over 175% Federal Poverty Level and have medical expenses you may still qualify for LIHEAP.
  • Other: Applications are taken over the phone and by mail. Applications available on the IMPACT website. Provide proof of social security numbers for all household members, proof of income over the last 30 days, and copies of recent utility bills. Available to homeowners and renters. LIHEAP applications also submitted to the Weatherization Program.

Weatherization Program

  • Services provided in partnership with Polk County Public Works. Helps to tighten and insulate homes against the elements and to assure the safety of appliances by providing health and safety checks, appliance replacement, home insulation, minor repairs, and client education.
  • Availability: Applications accepted year-round.
  • Eligibility: Income guidelines are at 200% Federal Poverty Level. Households eligible for LIHEAP are automatically put on a waiting list for this program. Households can exclusively apply for this program.

Winter Clothing Drive Giveaway

  • Project Fresh Start, supported by Ankeny Community Engagement, is an Ankeny-based volunteer program. Project Fresh Start coordinated donations of winter clothing. The giveaway provides coats, hats, mittens, and thick gloves to Ankeny students.
  • Availability: Saturday, November 14th 12:00 noon – 3:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 15th 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
  • Eligibility: Ankeny Community School District students only (Ankeny Christian Academy and St. Luke’s included).
  • Other: Only 50 people allowed in at one time. Masks are required.

Iowa Residential Utility Disruption Prevention Program

  • The Iowa Residential Utility Disruption Prevention Program provides eligible households with up to $2,000 towards electric, natural gas and water bills if they are at risk of disconnection due to an inability to pay due to a COVID-19 related loss of income.
  • Availability: Applications accepted until December 4, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. 
  • Must apply online at https://www.iowafinance.com/iowa-residential-utility-disruption-prevention-program/.
  • Eligibility: Residents of Iowa with an active residential utility account. Applicant must have an unpaid balance or have entered a payment plan with their utility provider. Annual income must be equal to or less than 80% Median Family Income based on county and number of household members. Must have experienced a COVID-19 loss of income on or after March 17, 2020.
  • Other: Provide utility bill with current balance and past due amount, proof of income, or documentation prior to and after loss of income, and information regarding employer and field of employment. If on payment plan with utility provider, send a copy of the payment plan agreement.

COVID-19 Iowa Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Program

  • Governor Reynolds has allocated federal CARES Act funds to assist Iowans who have been economically impacted by COVID-19 and may be facing housing hardships. This program will provide short-term relief to income-eligible renters and homeowners who are at risk of eviction or foreclosure.
  • Availability: Applications accepted until December 4, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. 
  • Must apply online at https://www.iowafinance.com/covid-19-iowa-eviction-and-foreclosure-prevention-program/.
  • Eligibility: Iowa renters and homeowners at risk of eviction or foreclosure due to a documented COVID-19 related loss of income on or after March 17, 2020. Annual income must be equal to or less than 80% Median Family Income based on county and number of household members.
  • Other: Provide proof of income, or documentation prior to and after loss of income. For foreclosure assistance provide latest mortgage statement.
