‘Pillar of support’: Honoring EveryStep’s Amazing Volunteers

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA  --  Ask any EveryStep employee and they’ll tell you that none of what they do for patients and clients would be possible without the support of a volunteer.  At EveryStep, volunteers are there at nearly every step of care and support we provide.

On May 22nd, our volunteers were invited to an evening of sweet celebration to say ‘thank you’ for the personal time they extend back to the community through our programs at Kavanaugh House, Amanda the Panda and Giving Three Thrift Store.  More than three dozen volunteers joined EveryStep staff for an afternoon of ice cream and awards.

Volunteer Opportunities

The day’s biggest honoree was Pam Schoffner who was recognized for her 25 years of volunteer service with EveryStep.  Over the course of a quarter-century, Pam has helped the organization in every way imaginable.

“Pam has done and seen it all,” says volunteer coordinator Toni Parkins, “Her volunteering started with the Kavanagh House Hospice team. Her service has only grown over the years. She has also served on the Board of EveryStep in multiple roles throughout the years and she also volunteers with the Amanda the Panda programs and events.

“Pam is a pillar of support when it comes to EveryStep. She has served on the planning committee for many events, helped with fundraising, and she is an avid spokesperson for EveryStep in the community and through her personal connections. Pam is such a joy to work with. She makes everyone feel welcome and her passion for our programming is undeniable when you talk with her.”

The theme for the evening was ‘Thank You For Keeping Us A-Float’ – with ice cream floats on the menu.  While Pam was the star attraction, she was joined by many others celebrating 5, 10 and 15 years of volunteer service.  Among the awardees unable to attend were the following individuals who reached service milestones:

  • Judy & Wayne Davison - 15 years
  • Judy Leedy - 10 years
  • Amy Koenig - 5 years
